Thomas Morffew is an authority on all things Google, especially Google+. Living in the Uk, he coaches, trains, comments and creates content around Google through 2 main sites gplusresource.com and the thegpluscoach.com.
Thomas feels that social media is all about being a way to better organize information, the way we receive it and the way we share it. The main way he uses social media is through his Android phone (Android being Google’s mobile operating system) with Google plus being his main social platform.
Thomas explains how he sees Google becoming more important because they are very visionary in every aspect of the web and creating a whole integrated online ecosystem (search, video, email, social, storage, apps, browser, music/media, games, maps/local, news etc). Thomas explains, for example, how Google+ circles (groups of contacts) and Gmail allow one to easily filter ones inputs e.g. sort email by circle and also to segment one’s publishing by circle. From a mobile perspective he explains that the Android phone is naturally packaged for Google+ and so again makes the managing/organizing ones online world much easier.
From a business perspective, Thomas feels that the slow creep of Google+ into search results is beginning to make firms have to start to use it as the personalization of search gathers pace.
In terms of tips to get started with Google+ Thomas recommends a mobile device such as Android phone or Android tablet because using Google+ on a laptop is more advanced.
From a personal perspective, Thomas feels Social Media is more about work – networking, lead generation, traffic etc, and he tries to keep it to a 9 to 5 focus choosing to live his real social life in real life with his family.
