How Charlie de Rusett, digital entrepreneur, uses social media

Charlie is the CEO of Vine digital/Publishing a full service marketing agency also specializing in producing regional publications. At the grand old age of 25, Charlie has the advantage that he is naturally thinking digital when his organization advises firms on their content/digital/social strategy.

From a personal perspective, Charlie uses social media to keep in contact with his family and friends as he finds it such a visual/instant medium to do that with, and to organise events with his friends and so he doesn’t double book things at the weekends.

Charlie explains that as has grown up with using social media he can easily see how it can be applied to marketing, so he naturally follows all his clients and ‘likes” their brands on social media. Charlie explains how the integration available within Salesforce.com to link a customer/prospects social profile into their account, makes its even easier to see what his clients news is, their interests and focus etc.

In terms of routine, Charlie uses the flexibility of his mobile to engage on social media and also recommends the use of twitter schedulers (such as Tweetdeck) to see what is being said and also to schedule tweets outbound.

Charlie is a massive fan of LinkedIn to look at profiles of individuals and understand people and the corporate hierarchy they operate within. The key point being that this enables his team to focus on the relationship not on the heavy sell.

Publishing for Charlie personally through his personal Twitter account, he doesn’t currently write a blog, but as a company they share a lot of content within their publications.

Charlie’s tips are that social media is not a fad and its hear to stay, that its like word of mouth on steroids so one can spread messages far and wide immediately and that it can be used to access large networks of you customer base. So he recommends looking at who to follow that is relevant to your business and to try to start up topics of conversation with them that shows your value to them.
